I arrived early this morning via train from Belgrade. I had heard horror stories about the bulgarian trains being slow and horrible, these stories are incorrect. The train was very nice, old but nice. It was empty, I had an entire sleeping compartment to myself. I was awoken around seven am when the train employee told me there was a problem with the train and I had to exit. Come to find out, the Bulgarian train company is on strike and will not allow trains to enter the station. I was about 22 kms from Sofia and was escorted to a local bus stop where I followed other travelers into the city by ways of tram and bus. All in all, a fantastic introduction to Bulgaria!
